Films for BIFF are selected in the following manner:

  • The Selection Committee is chaired by Steve Fass and includes: Art Robson, Roger Dutcher, Judy Kaplan.
  • The Selection Committee chooses a number of those films not in competition.  These are inclusive of, but not limited to documentaries, film-noir, neo-noir, and themes chosen for a particular year.
  • The Selection Committee reviews entries from our Call for Entries each year and forwards their selections to the Awards Committee for final selection of competitive winners of the festival.
  • The Invitational Committee is chaired by Rod Beaudoin, Executive Director of BIFF and includes, Becky Rogers, Nadith Rahman, and Ron Nief.
  • The Invitational Committee searches for films world wide and offers an invitation to noteworthy films for inclusion in competition and non competition categories alike.  The competitive selections are forwarded to the Awards Committee for final selection of competitive winners of the festival.

BIFF takes steps to broadly announce the Festival and submission guidelines and deadlines through film and festival media. Non-competition films are chosen in order to offer variety and opportunity to see international, vintage, classic, and unusual films otherwise unavailable in the region. Wherever possible, industry ratings of films are publicized as a guideline for viewers.

Selection and presentation of films does not represent any endorsement of points of view by, sponsors, organizers, advertisers or volunteers or by the owners of the venues in which they are presented. The Beloit International Film Festival does not shy away from controversy but makes every effort to present a balanced program offering a broad variety of viewpoints. The Beloit International Film Festival sincerely appreciates the support of all its sponsors and underwriters which allows the Festival to maintain an independent selection process. Comments and suggestions are encouraged to BIFFComments@aol.com
